T.E.E.N. Intensives
Spotlight T.E.E.N. (Theatre Educating and Entertaining Now) was developed in 2004 to bring issue-oriented, age-appropriate theatre to teen audiences. The Slightly Askew Theatre Ensemble offers continuing professional training for artists in the St. Louis area. Intensives were created to professionally train young performers for productions.
Intensives are 45 minutes in length and teach movement techniques (Suzuki and Viewpoints) and vocal explorations for creating characters. Fees are per student with a minimum of 12 students required.
WHADIJUSAY? Speech belongs half to the speaker, half to the listener. Good diction is essential in communicating with the audience. With this refresher in using our articulators, banish “mushmouth” forever. Sound smarter, converse confidently, declare decisively! Fee: $5
VIEWPOINTS FOR VOICE: Based on The Viewpoints Book by Anne Bogart and Tina Landau, explore the vocal virtuosity of pitch, tempo, duration, repetition, shape, dynamic, kinesthetic response, gesture, and architecture. Gain a remarkable awareness of the potential of the voice. Fee $10. Two class periods required.
CHOICES FOR VOICES: Create a character’s vocal life by examining “The Who.” Discover how things like age, occupation, personality, finances, past experiences, region, and environment affect the vocal choices of a character. Fee: $5.
*Prerequisite – Viewpoints for Voice.
INTRO TO SUZUKI: Developed by Tadashi Suzuki, this intensive introduces students to a Japanese theatre form adopted by many Western theatre practitioners as a means of becoming more connected to the stage. It develops a strengthened
physicality, essentially allowing the performer to carry on, even under the most strenuous circumstances. This is a physically demanding program requiring discipline and perseverance.
Fee: $25. Five class periods required.
INTRO TO VIEWPOINTS: Based on The Viewpoints Book by Anne Bogart and Tina Landau, learn the nuts and bolts approach of using the nine Viewpoints of time and space to create dynamic moments in theatre. Beginning exercises introduce soft focus, lanes and ensemble awareness.
Fee: $15. Three class periods required.
